As a Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, made his maiden visit to the United States from 9/26/14 to 9/30/14 (he was banned from entering, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, India, as his diplomatic, tourist and business visas were revoked by the United States in 2005).

For those who just want to hear his two lectures, one at the Madison Square Garden in Hindi, the second one, at Council on Foreign Relations, all in New York, please check the videos appended below, Curtsy of YouTube, MangoNews as well as CFR.

The second video is being translated simultaneously in English, where for the first time, he had to answer some questions of a business friendly audience at CFR.

NEWS AND ANALYSIS OF HIS VISIT

It was September of 2010, when this correspondent was interviewing Raj Purohit, President of Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP), Mumbai, at a NFIA meeting in New York, and when asked whether Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), should directly contest elections (rather than using BJP as a proxy), he had responded that RSS is a religious and cultural institution and should remain that way and should not contest elections.(see article dated September 19, 2010 titled "China is not the cause of unemployment in USA." Also see Digvijay Singh's remarks at Columbia University in New York about RSS in the article dated December 2, 2011,titled 'Right to Information law has revolutionized India.' You can simply type Raj Purohit and later on, Digvijay Singh in archive's dialogue box without placing any dates).

Now, whether Mr.Raj Purohit likes it or not, it has happened in a strange way and without RSS officially participating in elections in India.

So,what we have now, is a lifelong RSS pracharak (publicist or recruiter) as a Prime Minister who has pushed aside all the old leaders of BJP, replacing them with leaders with a strong RSS affiliation!

His skillfully designed lectures in the United States and elsewhere, show that he has good intentions and does not sound phony, because he has discovered two things that most of the politicians have missed.

(1) KEEP INVENTING ONE CATCHY SLOGAN A DAY, GIVE PROMISES AND (2) SHOW THAT YOU ARE FULFILLING A FEW

Just don't keep giving rosy, appealing speeches only, but chalk out a plan of action and start fulfilling a few of these programs or show that you are attempting to, no matter how small they appear to other politicians. (Some years back when Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin was running for Presidency of Russia and, even though, most American analysts were predicting his defeat, he won. When I asked a Russian expert about the reasons, he replied that 'You know, people appreciated a small thing that affected their day to day lives, and he had paid attention to one thing during his previous term.He had made trains run on time and that thing had made people so happy that they voted for him')!

So, if the Modi Government is building some toilets, promising to clean the streets and villages of India, and have promised jobs and houses for everyone in next few years, what it means? It means, keep electing me and my party till I can fulfill all these promises!

THESE ARE HIS PLANS, TACTICS AND GOALS THAT ARE OBVIOUS:

*Avoid Press conferences, so that the media will print only what he hand--feeds them in lectures making them swallow everything as it is-- hook, line and sinker, thus avoiding embarrassing questions that reflects bad light on him. This is a longstanding policy of BJP/RSS leaders (even L.K.Advani, when he was # 2 in BJP led government and had agreed, through an intermediary in New York, to give an interview, refused and told this correspondent to send him the questions in writing, instead)!

Following that policy, even after his meeting with President Obama, when they held a joint press briefing, Narendra Modi did not take any questions.

Only time he came across some friendly questions was at the Council on Foreign Relations, a second most powerful body (after National Security Council) that affects American Foreign Policy.

That had to happen, because CFR, is an association containing special analysts, millionaire businessmen, ex--ambassadors and academics, etc., and has a strong, almost mandatory policy to quiz, and also to let its members ask questions (media sits on a separate table at the end, to be identified, so that they rarely get a chance to pose a question).

At the end of this meeting, CFR President Richard N.Haass says that 'I learned something from your Mr.Prime Minister(it is) how not to answer a question!'

*Use Technology to reach out to young people, promise to create jobs for them, and appeal to their civic sense to help him solve the problems by joining hands with the Government's plans.

PLEASE UPPER/MIDDLE CLASS BUSINESSMEN, AND EDUCATED YOUTH LOOKING FOR MORE BUSINESS AND JOBS:

*Keep selling skilled Indian Labor to Multi-national companies. Tell them to come to India, establish their offices for technical and manufacturing as well as push for the export of these workers overseas.

* Keep repeating the theme that 'you have the money, I have manpower, so let us join together' (that reminds me of a joke.A friend asked a businessman why he left the partnership he had formed. He replied, "When I joined, I had the money and my partner had experience. Now, he has the money, and I have the experience)!
It is very likely that he will be successful in creating employment opportunities for job seekers (his cut off point is 35 years old), tremendous wealth generation for businessmen and upper middle class, who will keep voting for BJP in the future.

Will continue this policy as a counterweight and leave farmers and fisherman behind, as they had played a big role in the defeat of BJP in the last general election, or whether he and his party have learned any lessons?

ABOUT FARMERS AND FISHERMEN

In Gujarat, as a popular chief minister, he created booming business by letting the agricultural land to be sold, generating a housing construction boom that enriched other segments of economy and created a full employment type situation.

Can this policy be imposed by a federal government on affiliated states? It is very difficult to do so.Therefore, it is necessary for him to get control over states legislative assemblies and increase majority in the upper house of Parliament, called Rajya Sabha.

But even if that happens, shortage of agricultural land will create food shortages that will spiral a price increase, that will be difficult to deal with.

TO WIN ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS KEEP HINDUTVA AGENDA ON A SEMI--HOLD:

His plan is to concentrate on winning as many upcoming Legislative Assembly elections as possible, before pushing Hindutva agenda to the forefront.

Also on the agenda will be how to break--up Muslim/Backward Class/Farm laborers Front--a stronghold of opposition parties, by praising Muslims for now but keep giving a glimpse of Hindutva agenda, to delight supporters, by using the word 'Bharat' instead of 'India' and knit them in slogans like 'Bharat Maataki Jai, Vande Mataram, Ganga Maiya, Navratri,' etc., without mentioning any other religions.

PERCEIVED AND APPARENT AGENDA FOR FOREIGN POLICY TOWARDS PAKISTAN, ISRAEL AND BANGLADESH:

In the foreign policy, use the Pakistani model and have good relations with China and United States isolating Pakistan. Keep using the term 'Vashudhaive Kutumbakam' (the whole world is a family) which has never worked.By the way, do you know in what sense this term was first mentioned in the political science textbook 'Hitopadesh?' (see this other article in this issue titled 'Another Idealist appears on the horizon riding a $850m telecom missile.....' or go to archives and place a keyword Hitopadesh in the dialogue box).
In this context, he did get a commitment, at least on paper, that will irritate Pakistan vis a vis its relations with United States,-- to cut off financial capabilities of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, Dawood Ibrahim network and Haqqani networks-- all of whom operate from Pakistan with the full support of its military wing.

(in this context whether America will act or not, please see the review 'No exit from Pakistan?,' an article in this issue about how a CFR analyst argues about continuously supporting Pakistan or please check archives with a key word Pakistan).

To please Indian Muslim voters and not to displease Middle Eastern Muslim countries that supply oil, he did not agree to join United States' fight against Islamic State.

In case, if Pakistani violation of ceasefire in Kashmir increases a lot, he will become a hero by giving authority to military commanders to go from a limited engagement in the Kashmir front to an all out attack on Pakistan from Punjab, Kutch and on Karachi, come what may, just like what the late Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Sastri had done.

He may start this type of delayed preparation before the arrival of the next general election.

Go slow now, but largely increase military, scientific, business and intelligence relations with Israel during his second term in office.

What the policy will be towards Bangladesh is unclear, but it is leaning towards taking a tougher stand.

IMPLEMENTING PRO-BUSINESS POLICY:

*Cut red tape by making decision processes quick and favorable to businessmen to reduce corruption in government, thus creating a strong impression that this is a 'business friendly government,' but do not mention that India has a history and a long tradition of strong labor unions, so as not to upset multi--national corporations.

BJP, now led by RSS, has always been perceived as a pro--business, anti--labor, anti--women party (its leader have even gone to the extent of prescribing and sometimes illegally trying to impose an orthodox dress code on women, competing with Islamic dress code).

Chances are opposition parties led by Labor unions will create a storm every time, an anti--labor legislation is needed to be passed.

POLLUTED WATERS, DIRTY CITIES AND VILLAGES:

*Appeal Non--Resident Indians for giving money to cleanup polluted Ganga River, but do not mention what steps need to be taken to stop the pollution as well as cleaning other rivers that are getting more and more polluted, day by day, by Industries.

Give a new slogan a day to create awareness amongst population for cleanliness, etc., but give no plan as to where these millions of tons of garbage will be disposed off. Will it be in the rivers, streams, lakes and ponds, as it is done everyday?

ABOUT OFBJP AND INOCs IN TRI-STATE AREA HERE:

Since many years, Overseas Friends of Bharatiya Janata Party (OFBJP), a loose organization, mainly based in New Jersey is operating without much success or influence (even when BJP led government was in power, their office--bearers could not even get their names on the invitation list of Indian Consulate in New York, even though, they tried and tried)! For years, they could not get mass support from the Indians residing here, either.

Recent entry of businesspersons and a media person with deep pockets can change that situation, but can they do some planning? Their leadership is accustomed to recruit people from their own cadre, and that policy, which has not succeeded in the past, it seems will be repeated

On the contrary, Indian National Overseas Congress (INOC), a late entry in the United States, has made strong inroads by establishing several statewide chapters, recruiting and getting support from rich and influential businessmen, arranging a lot of meetings for visiting Congress party leaders in New York/New Jersey/Long Island area.

It is too bad that none of these organizations have established a 'complaint burea,' or make a strong push and obtain dual citizenship for NRIs--rather than getting them a new gimmick card every time they demand dual citizenship or to hear and redress complaints or problems they experience when they visit India--by taking help from their leaders in India and resolving them, a sure way to popularize their associations here.
